My friend Steve Knight posts here about what Gordon Macdonald has posted at the Christianity Today Leadership Journal/Out of Ur blog.
This could be bad. Hopefully, we can prevent this from happening by taking some critical steps back from acting like a lobbying group with strong ties to the Republican Party. The NAE could instead focus on making reasonably balance information available on the 7 areas of concern that it has identified with its “Call to Evangelical Civic Responsibility” and letting evangelicals make up their own minds how to act politically, hopefully using my house church idea.
If they could hold themselves to actions that at least 90% of NAE representatives would support in their political advocacy on our behalf, that would suffice to keep from getting too wrapped up in Empire and cleaning our public image before the world.

I have had the uneasy feeling for awhile that it is not just the evangelical right, but the evangelical left that is selling out the gospel for the sake of a place at Caesar’s palace table. Look at Sojourner’s and Jim Wallis, long the heroes of those of us who saw the gospel as deeply rooted in social justice. It seems to be just another fund-raising machine, another way to get money to support political candidates (Democrats mostly), another way to sleep with the enemy. The NAE may be finished, like the Moral Majority and the Christian Coalition. Can we be far behind?

I do not wish to speak ill of Jim Wallis.
I appreciate what he is trying to do, though I would prefer if it were more decentralized.
I have my own problems with Wallis, but I will defend him, lo he excludes my own dissenting viewpoints from his table.
