Calling on all Ross Perots, Ralph Naders, Tim Pennys and Peter Hutchesons and Kinky Friedmans.  If after much campaigning you still find yourself with inadequate support to win a major election that is tight, there is another option.

You can tell voters that they should vote for you as a sign that they believe the bigwig parties are wrong.  But on the day before the election, depending on how well the main parties accomodate themselves to your issues, you can call on your supporters to vote quasi-strategically.  You might give away a quarter, half or three quarters or even all of your votes to the main party candidate who best takes on your issues.  What you do, say if you want to give a quarter of your support away, is call on your supporters to flip a coin twice when they are in the voting booth, and if it lands heads both times then they should vote for the candidate you partially endorsed, otherwise they should vote for you.

This would give you more leverage and reduce the “spoiler” phenomena.  It would get the main candidates to compete for your partial endorsement, allowing for you to press them perhaps for third-party-friendly reforms.
