Like a kid …

…in an organic store.
I deposited my first paycheck and decided to check out the whole foods store. It’s maybe a couple miles further than the grocery store near my complex.
I’m so glad I went there. I was trying to keep my smile down, because it might look a little odd to be so happy in a grocery store.
It’s going to be much easier for me to be a vegetarian here, especially shopping at that store. There are a few things that they didn’t have, like canned rediburger.

But the things I did find:
fake turkey for thanksgiving.
fake giblet gravy for thanksgiving.
curry tofu.
frozen aloo ghorbi. Unfortunately, i’m trying to eat it right now. It’s bland and nasty. I won’t buy it again.
Sesame millet bread. So good you can eat it plain.
Mushroom and cheese ravioli.
Garlic hummus. OK, I found this at another store, but there’s more of it, and for the same price.

The problem with shopping at this store, is every once in a while, you want a brand you recognize. I wanted Stove Top Stuffing, but had to settle for something else. Which I’m sure it’ll be good, but it won’t be the same. No Mountain Dew, which is just as well, but I’m dying for a Mountain Dew. And they don’t sell them in bottles at work, either!

But on top of all that, I bought a fair amount of food and didn’t spend any more than I would at any other store. There weren’t many things that I balked at due to price.
They also have an interesting section that includes cool soap. I’m a sucker for cool soap.

I left the grocery store a very happy person. I’m going to need to go back for potatoes and mushrooms for next week. That, and I couldn’t find where the whipped cream was. (For the organic pumpkin pie.)

  1. Nothing wrong with looking happy in a grocery store! Grocery shopping (when the store’s not too busy) is one of my favorite things to do, though one of my least favorites when everybody else is out shopping.

And I must say, you just made me hungry for Rediburger. . .

And about soap: I’ll have to try to remember to copy (or just type out for you) this funny little piece called “Soap Slut” from Guilty Pleasures, a fun little book.

I hate shopping when there are too many people. There were almost too many people yesterday at the store. But I was so happy, I didn’t care.
I guess I’m just going to have to get used to lots of people being in most of the stores I want to go to, all the time, because this is a much bigger city than what I’m used to.
But with it, I get a cool store!
