Books!

I finally made it to the library yesterday. A real library!
Never mind that it looked so promising on the outside, like a library that might be huge, one that you could get lost in.

Unfortunately, you can’t. There’s only one real floor of books I’d be interested in; the second floor is genealogy, administration and meeting rooms.
The downtown library is very functional, very ’70s, most likely. Sure, it would’ve been nice if it had been all nice and cozy and not so industrial…
But the important thing is that I can go to a real library again!
Got my library card right away, and even got a mini-card to hang on my keychain.
Might go on a tour of all the libraries here. But first I wanted to see the downtown library.

  1. How’s their CD collection? I have to admit that now that we have a CD burner, I tend to head straight to the CD bins.

Did you ever read any Samuel Delany? I’d like to hear your thoughts about Empire Star, Neveryona, or one of his other books.

Didn’t go to the CD collection. But I imagine that’ll be the next thing. The first time you check out books, you can only check out two, so I figured it was better to check out books (one for me, one for Heather) and come back for the CDs later. :) I didn’t read any Samuel Delany yet. I should put him on my list though. I did pick up a book at a book sale with you once…

  3. I was thinking about that book in particular actually. He really is a pretty amazing writer, if one that takes a wee bit more focus to read at times…

I will take your word on it, as I haven’t had a chance to read him. But as you’ve devoted an entire blog name or two to him, I suppose I could give him a try. Give me a few days. I’m behind in my reading. I’m reading an escapist book, while also reading a sociological book (a couple months worth of struggle, as it isn’t that interesting to read) and I also have another escapist book to read from the library. But I’ll tackle the Delany after that, and perhaps seek out other ones at the library. Whoo hoo! I can check out books now!
Assuming they have any Delany. Although they’ve got a very good reciprocal agreement with several counties, so somewhere should surely have some of his stuff.

  5. Did you like THE FEMALE MAN? I bought an extra copy a while back.

Mel - Who is Todd? He seems to be a frequent visitor to your site. And where is the place you shouldn’t by CD’s at?
