Misty Mountain Hop

Took a trip up the foothills and mountains, near the entrance of Sequoia National Park Sunday. For about half of the trip, it was cold and gray, a little depressing. The distant mountains were disappointingly hard to see.

Lake Kaweah. During a sunny time.

The fog and clouds lifted like a veil once we got to Lemon Cove. Sunlight shone down, welcome like a long-lost friend.
We stop for a bathroom break, and of course, for fresh, cold Mountain Dew. And the sun is so bright, I pull out the camera.
Where we stopped, the pictures weren’t very good. I don’t think the pictures from the entire trip turned out all that great. Some of it was just that it was too misty. But Heather seemed to enjoy the trip to the mountains. I wanted her to see what I first saw when I came out here — beauty beyond description.

About halfway back, the veil came back down, darkening the sky and somehow sucking some of the cheer out of the trip. One place we stopped, Slick Rock, was very cold. Wind whipped our hair, and I stupidly had taken off my coat because it had been warm in Lemon Cove.
We might’ve stayed longer, but I was going to freeze.

Heather reluctantly poses. It’s cold, but she’s smartly wearing her jacket.

Some chubby chick hunkers down in the cold. She didn’t think she’d need to put her jacket on. It’s cold!

Have you been to Yosemite yet? I’ve been to Sequoia/Kings Canyon, and to Yosemite, and I think Yosemite blows the other park away.

Haven’t been to Yosemite. Didn’t go into Sequoia yet, either. I wanted to save those for when I had a nice digital camera. And it seems at this point in the season, it’d be a better idea to wait for spring anyway, because snow might make some stuff impassable.
Another thing that I want to do is simply be able to spend more time there, like at least a whole weekend. I don’t think you can do any of those places justice in a day trip.
I think we’re probably going to buy a national park year pass just so we can go when we want, and so if people visit, we can take them there too. I think it’ll be worth it in no time.
But plans are definitely on for Yosemite, and Sequoia/Kings Canyon. I can’t wait.

  3. I’ve been to Yosemite! It must have been ten years ago at least when my mom and I visited my brother at the Atwater Air Force Base. I recall ears popping and a very rocky creek. Not much more.

Have I mentioned how bad my memory is?

Send us that last picture of you when you get a chance, Mel. It’s a cute, sheepish sorta shot of you and I LOVE the T. (email would do if it is high enough quality to print out)

Well, if you move here, then you can go to Yosemite again. Papillon1966 says that Yosemite will be best in the spring, when there’s enough water from runoff to put the waterfalls at their peak.
And I can send you that picture. Yuck.
