Mmmm… Donuts. Shel, you come and visit, and we’ll take you to Lucky’s Donut House.
These places are a little dumpy looking. A boss at work, as well as friend Kyle, has suggested that some donut shops are a front for drugs. Heather’s brother George says that donuts are a form of population control, making sure people don’t live past 45.

Yes, could I have the special powdered donut? You know, the dimebag donut?
Update on Dakota Donuts and Burgers. They’ve changed their sign, along with their management. I don’t remember what it says, but it includes Chinese food!
So you can clog your arteries in many ways. Perhaps fry your donuts in the same oil as your chicken. Mmmm. Nastily delicious.

Can I have some of your special chicken fried donuts?

I now live right across the street from a Krispy Kreme which I think is going to be very, very dangerous for me!

I do admire any restraint on the food end. Matt, I’d likely change my route to work, or bring a pointed stick and jab my hand with it as I walked past that store. Those Lucky doughnuts were damn good. But I maintain it’s more than just the warmness, though being fresh made it the best doughnut I’d ever eaten (nudging aside Krispy Kreme, partly for the goodness, partly cause I didn’t need to sell my soul to eat it). But the cold ones were awesome, as well. They fry them to simple perfection, with the outside just crisp enough to notice, and an inside soft and just sweet enough and melty and light. Beautiful.
So me, the person who hasn’t eaten doughnuts regularly since high school, is now fiending for doughnuts every five seconds. It’s a terrible thing. I think if I start working out more often the cravings will subside. I hope.

I thought I had happily rid myself of the donut habit (or in AP style, doughnut), but when confronted by such wonders, how can I say no?
Mishawaka got a Krispy Kreme maybe a year or six months before I left, and I only went there once. But was sometimes the beneficiary of an office offering. But I normally managed to avoid them. I just don’t crave donuts all that much. Krispy Kremes are very good, but they’re not the end all and be all, and I kind of regard them in the way I do Starbucks — a necessary, chained evil.
I figured out what the deal was, though. I was used to very sugary donuts from Dixie Creme (yuck) or store donuts. Not the same thing. Krispy Kremes, I will admit, are a step or three above those. I’m not even a fan of the glazed donut. There must be chocolate involved.
But there is something to be said for warm donuts, and warm donuts with chocolate. Don’t even need the filling, they’re that good.
A favorite treat of mine when I worked in Dowagiac was a specialty bakery’s chocolate eclairs. I’ve never tasted anything so divine. And worth every penny of $1.95. Considering what I was making back then, that pretty much amounted to my discretionary money for the entire month.
Matt, I admire your restraint. I think with a little effort, I may win over the donuts. Luckily, I don’t have to walk by Lucky’s on my way to work. Otherwise, I would be so lost.

Of all the unhealthy things you could write about! I love a hot, fresh, glazed donut from Krispy Kreme. Nothing better! They way it melts in the mouth . . . mmm. . . That they give them away free while they’re making them (assuming, I think, that I’ll be buying a dozen donuts, which I don’t).

I’m a purist when it comes to donuts, I suppose, my favorite being the plain glazed yeast donut. Sour cream cream donuts are a close second, though last time I was at Krispy Kreme (ages ago, mind you, when Elliot was just a month old), I’d discovered they no longer make them. That may have been a temporary thing, but I was still bummed
