A former co-worker collects newsroom quotes. Taken out of context, they’re very funny, but they’re often funny in context too. I occasionally hit him up for the latest batch. Although since I left, his river of quotes has apparently dried up to a trickle.
Here’s one I overheard in my new newsroom.
To a newsroom aide or receptionist:
What are you up to?
Just pretending to enjoy my job.
