42 Dreams of Arizona Bay

Searching for the question to the answer of 42.

Time off and nothing to do

Well, I have plenty to do. But it’s mostly being ignored in favor of reading blog entries (and insane blog comments) and other web stuff.

It’s as good a time as any to share some random places I’ve been today. Either as offshoots from things I read every day or occasionally to one little sick gem on role playing games from an apparently legit church group. I’ll leave out the sodsbrood blogs I regularly visit, because probably we all go there.

Let’s begin with this one. The thing that has disturbed me the most so far. Be warned. The contents may be disturbing.

How I got there: Nude Highway Driving
A site that I bookmarked, but don’t to to as often, is one I found off off of Nude Highway driving. Nuggets of Gold.
And another one… Nonsense Verse

The dig at evil role players. Click on the dangers to children. Now I understand why I’m going to hell. I never role played, but I always liked fantasy, and I love role playing video and computer games.

How I got there: a link from a friend. But also check out the counseling section on the home page. Scroll down to some of the counseling topics. Riotous. I wish this place was like landoverbaptist, tongue in cheek, but as far as I can tell, this one must be on the up and up.

In the spirit of the ongoing underwear discussion… Somehow, I don’t think this will be a problem with our little group, come Monday.

How I got there: warrenellis.com. A lovely, sick blog that I try to read quite regularly. He likes to post things that are definitely not safe for work. And sometimes does it gleefully while reprimanding people for reading it at work. Stuff on the cutting edge, or disgusting. On the decay of humanity. Never know until you look. Don’t look!

I don’t remember how I found this, but most of the blogs I have bookmarked come from links on other people’s blogs. I don’t quite read this one regularly, but I think it’s pretty amusing. fafblog. What is it? I’m not sure.

This guy’s most recently been living in Cali, but is on a year hiatus from work, going to South America. I wish we all could be in a position to do that. Don’t know how I originally got here, either.

Does this look infected? I don’t know.

This is why Heather won’t get a Chinese or Japanese character tattoo. Now I agree with her. Me, I’m getting a 42 soon. And here’s another tattoo site.

How I got there: I think I originally found the link from this site. But maybe not. With a name like Majikthise, I can’t help but like it. Majikthise is the name of a philosopher in Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Testy copy editors. I don’t go here as often as I should. Especially considering my slight shift in occupation. But the only part I would read, if I came here more, is the nightmare jobs of the week section. Nothing more beautiful than copy editors being catty over the grammar of job postings in journalism, than perhaps copy editors being catty over the content of a posting. Like trying to sell a crap job as something special. And the irony of this is that I’m probably breaking all sorts of copy editing rules right now. Do I care? Hmph. I’m not at work. That’s how much I care.

Romenesko. Something every good journalist should visit. And therefore, I forget about for weeks at a time.

Newsmap. A fascinating look at the top news stories posted on the web. Really quite beautiful, but I don’t know how well it works with slower connections.

Bah. I’ve spent a lot of time doing this. I’ll stop now. But that was fun. Imagine how much faster my daily reading would be if I had a feed set up.

  1. That “droopy drawers” bill is all over the news here in Virginia. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I do disagree, however, that the law targets Blacks specifically. Having taught in public ed., I know for a fact you are as likely to see rural white boys with their Hanes showing as urban Black kids.

  2. Oh Mel, now I know what I’m going to do when I get home from work! Thank you!

  3. I spend that kind of time between Sod’s Brood and my email (which now has over 500 emails in the in-box, the most every that I’ve had. Yes, I know I’m inviting someone to brag about the more emails they have in their in-box!). Danger for procrastinors. Danger, Will Rogers.

  4. Mel B

500 e-mails. On the contrary, I’d say that’s pretty impressive.
And today, I’d like to get something accomplished, but instead will read more blogs, probably, and write about what I thought about another album.
Instead of cleaning. Working out. Working on my shopping cart blog. Procrastination is lovely.
