Oddly, I wasn't all that into Alanis when that CD first came out. My brother was a bigger fan. I eventually identified with it as an album for anger in an angry time in my life. But when hasn't there been an angry time in my life?
But yeah, Alanis does bring back lots of memories.

Other angry albums/songs for me:
The Offspring's Smash. Specifically, Self-Esteem.

Nine Inch Nails... well, pretty much anything. But especially most of Pretty Hate Machine. Something I Can Never Have. That's What I Get. Sin.

Ah... Now putting in some nin right now.

You've gotta admit, her "Jagged Little Pill" CD is probably the quintessential album of the mid-nineties. Practically every song on it was great. Listening to it brings back everything about my time in college. Great album.

Shel and I had a coworker whose pet peeve was the misuse of irony.
But I am more sensitive to it because of that, and I think I use it correctly, most of the time.
But not so sure that Alanis Morissette always did. :)

I'm not sure there is a big difference between coincidence and irony. After all, if I win the lottery and then die in a plain crash while going to receive my award, that is both ironic and a coincidence. Isn't it?

You've got me humming that Alanis Morissette song, "Ironic," now. I think the radio played that song ten times an hour back in '96. I'd often refer to it when teaching my students about irony.
