Car

Never thought I could actually make my car insurance go down simply by moving. Inspired in reverse by From Vigo to Vega and roommate Heather’s recent experience getting quotes for the car she’s going to buy… I asked if my insurance would go down when I changed my address. And realized that sometimes moving can be a good thing.
Saving $16 a month by changing neighborhoods, zip codes. And it doesn’t take a lot of work to realize why.
I feel oddly embarrassed to be moving to such a nice neighborhood, and have been making excuses whenever anyone asks me. One coworker said he makes no apologies for living somewhere quiet.
And it will be worth the price of moving for the quiet and a bit safer. And the $16 on my car insurance. (Which doesn’t even touch the extra rent I’m paying, but we won’t talk about that.)

Was making a trip to the new place today, and heard the exact same sounds that drive me nuts upstairs. I had a split-second of paranoia thinking the insane people and their insane kids upstairs were following me around. But it was across the street, the strains of the booming, irritating accordion music drifting from a truck. Please don’t let the insane people follow me.
And Heather pointed out a shopping cart to me at our new complex. But it was being thrown away. Or so we think.

  1. I am glad that your car insurance is going down. That is always a good feeling. . . just do not bring up the rent issue and everyone will be envious of you!

  2. You heard accordion music from a passing truck? (and you complain about it?) I must say you have moved to a strange neighborhood indeed. We get the SUVS with the loud “hippety-hop” bass of rap-star-wannabes (brief allusion to the Lady Killers). which wake up baby E and turn todd in to a neighborhood nazi. I sit around all thinking about how to slit tires or turn in the filthy culprits…

Do those CA accordions really “boom” or was that a stretcher on your part?

  3. Okay, who wrote that last entry. . . Todd? Dawn? or Bruce? Hmmm. . .

No. The truck was parked across the street. Probably one of the lawn maintenance people.
    Don’t complain about passing cars.

  5. That would have been Todd. He’s a bit of a fascist when it comes to peace and quiet around the neighborhood, though he claims to be “open to the other” :)

Yeah, but then he complains when someone parks in front of your big window in the livingroom.

And I have to admit, people are parking in front of our patio window. Which you mostly can’t see because of the shrubs. But somehow, it’s a little jarring to my view. I actually thought of Todd as I started to get irritated by the same view of the same van all the time.
Everyone has a garage. Then you can park behind your garage. Then there’s additional spaces, not a lot, outside of that.
Guests are supposed to park on the street. My guess, this van isn’t a guest. Oh well. No trash sculptures. And not a lot of noise, aside from that parnoid moment of music.
