42 Dreams of Arizona Bay

Crazy with the camera

I still don’t have the nice digital camera I’m dying for. It’s called self-control and a nasty pet deposit on the new place. So be warned.

We were excited on our first moving day. All the space was beautiful. You could spin and spin around and hit nothing. These days, there are boxes and boxes taking up most spaces. Only the kitchen is unpacked, and only because eating takes precedence over most other kinds of unpacking.

patio

This is the door leading out to the patio. Of course a favorite with the furry friends.

fireplace

The fireplace we’ll never use.

wider view

A view from the kitchen across the livingroom.

trouble

This is Merlin, sitting in the hallway, overlooking the stairs. He has a halo, but don’t be fooled. And never saw anything so funny as the first time he ran and fell down the stairs. Needless to say, he’s learned about being more careful.

leftbehind

What we left behind. People leaving trash strewn everywhere. I loved this trash sculpture for its constant state of change, for the moldiness of its fries (need to send it to Morgan Spurlock) and for the touching addition of a doll shoe. The sculpture, alas, exists no more. And I discovered that the dumpster area of the new place is very clean. Hurray!

  1. What a great looking place! Especially the door leading out to the patio. And that globe in the living room looks familiar…methinks you got that when out thrifting with us?

Thanks! I really like it. It’s not, unfortunately, that empty any more. A part of me wants to just live somewhere very minimally. No stuff. Just have lots and lots of space. But I have so many books, so many little things that are special to me.
That globe probably won’t live there permanently; it actually looks really good in the kitchen, but that’s when there’s no stuff set up in the kitchen. It’ll probably go back on top of one of my bookcases. That is the globe that I got while thrifting with you guys.
Drat! I’m reading blogs instead of unpacking. Whoops!

  3. Well, I’m reading blogs when I should be grading, which is arguably worse…

The place looks great! I’m sure the unpacking will go quickly once you actually get down to it.

  5. Merlin looks like he has settled in nicely! He is a beautiful little guy! :)

Unpacking goes better if you don’t let it depress you. Which I am. So I just need to tackle it. I’ll feel so much better when it’s done.

Thanks for complimenting Merlin. He seems to think he’s always starving for attention.

Btw… I saw an ad that said Morgan Spurlock is going to be in Fresno in a couple of weeks. I’d be very tempted to go see him, but I’ve got to work. :(

  7. So, lemme be lazy and ask who M.S. is.

    Cool place.

All this talking about moving and expecting my upcoming year of transience (sp?) has given me a silly idea: Maybe I’ll design a living space on-line (like a MOO or something) to substitute my lack of a fixed place for the year.

Morgan Spurlock is the guy who did the documentary Supersize Me. Ate only fast food for a month. Included an experiment to see the decomposition of various fast food items. When the french fries were thrown out, they didn’t show any decay whatsoever. So there is actually a point where fries do decay.

And designing a living space you truly like online while living as a transient in a temporary space is quite interesting.
I probably could’ve used that for the months living next to shopping cart guy, to imagine the nicer apartment I could’ve been living in. ;-)
I’d be interested to see what you would design for yourself, Melissa
