No words
I mostly have no words to describe seeing trees so magnificently ancient and huge. As usual, did things in a quick, half-assed way, so we didn’t get to see the largest tree in the park, the General Grant, even though we were in the General Grant grove. There’s always next time.

The first truly large sequoias we saw. I laid on my back to get this shot. I still can’t quite capture all that I want to capture, but it’s a start.

A downed tree. It’s in a spongy stage of decay, and is also fraying in little slivers that feels somewhat like fur. The smell of wood is heavenly as I stand in the ruins of the tree. This tree we’re allowed to come close to. But all the living trees are off-limits, to keep people from trampling on the root systems of these ancient trees.

This is a shot of the same tree. It’s a straight, clean line like a board, so it must’ve been cut to clear the path or something. There’s another tree down the way that’s referred to as the Michigan Tree. It used to be called the Spring, or something, the sign says. But the tree fell, due to the spring’s undermining, in the 20s. And that fallen tree, full of moss, is still there.

Just a tree.

This is inside a tree stump. We actually walked through it. It apparently used to be used as quarters to workers and at one point, was also used to serve food and “liquid” refreshments to early visitors to the park. It was like walking through a cave. It was magnificent. I keep saying that I’ve seen the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. Well, this is it, this week.

Of course, whenever you have beauty in world, you have to deface it. Preferably by telling the world how much you love your crush of the week. Jerks.
WONDERFUL pictures! I grew up in Northern California and your pictures are making me a little home sick, but that is alright.
You’ve still got that “I just moved to CA glow.” Hold onto it. People get jaded much too quickly these days. Keep sharing the pix!
I do love it here. All the other flaws… can be overlooked for the kinds of stuff I can do out here.
Even if it hit 97 degrees today and the air is unhealthy.
My parents visited these monstrous trees when they vacationed in California. They had some marvelous photos too. They are impressive, aren’t they?
They are impressive. And you’ll get to see some too when you visit; Yosemite has a grove or two of sequoias.
