Rain

Most of today’s good dream is long washed away, but I remember being in a car. The sky darkens, and then it begins to pour.
Water hammers down in sheets against the windshield. I am not driving, so I am free to enjoy the downpour. I shout happily, dancing around in my seat a bit, and hope for thunder and lightning. And I’m glad for the parched earth… it will drink in the unseasonal water, and hopefully cool things off a bit.
Having talked so much recently about how much I miss thunderstorms, I have no problem figuring out where this came from.

Rained here again last night, heavy with lots of thunder, lots of rain. But now it’s miserably hot and humid again which is why I’m not going outside anytime soon.
It’s a gray, wet morning in Washington, too, but the thunderstorms haven’t done anything to cool the temperature. The humidty is if anything worse, even in the midst of rain.
The image of traveling through rain is so dynamic–the horizonal movement of the car against the vertical movement of the rain reminds me of Yeats for some reason. . . .
