Once. I’ve been swimming in the ocean once.
I’ve been to the coast five times now (we’re not counting San Francisco trips, which were not trips to visit the ocean) and have been swimming once, in Santa Cruz. And even that was an effort of will: the water was still quite cold.

1. Finding out that I’m really not good enough. I have this fear that I’ve always been told that I’m smart and funny, but that I’m not either. There’s always someone smarter, someone more brilliant. And I’m just getting older.
