Ominous sky
Here are some photos from Pismo Beach, pre-drama. Some also can be seen full size at my flickr page. Also look for some non-blogged photos from New Year’s and a random sunset last week.

Perhaps this sky, from dark clouds to light on the ocean, is a warning to troubled times ahead.

I like the reflection of sky on the wet sand.

The pier we spent our oceangazing time at. It was too cold and breezy to go in the water, although some people did wade or walk along the wet sand. And then there were the ever-faithful surfers. You can see them in the photo below.

The birds are not shy and hope for food. Some nasty kids and teens make it a game to chase them. I stalk this one, and then another, trying to get closer for a better shot. It was fascinating to watch them almost hover as they launched, gliding into the air as they rode the gusty winds.

Bird again.

One of my favorite, goofy activities: taking pictures of people taking pictures. In this case, myself taking a picture of Heather taking a picture of me, taking a picture of myself. Can you see the reflection of my camera and hands in her lens?

For my dad. I shot this one minute before I found out my own car would not start. I couldn’t get close enough to the car to get a good shot; there were people all around. This is a Chevy Nova. Our family used to have a 1966 Nova. Novas still have a special place in my heart.

For everyone. This car was at our motel. I knew I had to take a picture of this car when I saw it from the side. It had terrible spraypainting, and one the side I could see, hand-sprayed flames. Tacky and priceless. But how to do it without getting caught?
I woke up in the middle of the night, couldn’t sleep, and snuck this photo from above. It’s much funnier from above, with the words Happy New Year and an American flag painted on.
Beautiful photos despite the gloomy day! And I love the car. Can’t believe they drive that!
I can see The Dude driving that car (the second one). Too much Big Lebowski on the brain…
