A little cold
The pool was a little cold, but I took my first swim of the season yesterday.
I didn’t stay in long; only about 10 laps.
It had been in the 90s yesterday, and Heather, Sarah and I went to a Renaissance festival. Within minutes of standing out in the blistering sun, I had sweat pouring down my face. Luckily, I remembered to put on sunscreen before we went out. I’m still peeling from the unfortunate sunburn of the Mexico cruise.
My feet got filthy. It’s about that time of year where everything shrivels up and dies and stays brown if not artificially watered by sprinklers, so the Renaissance festival was properly filthy and dusty for the players in costume, many of them barefoot, for the weekend.
Anyway, a swim seemed really tantalizing. I rinsed off my dusty feet with a hose and got in. Stood there for a minute complaining and then finally took the plunge, while Heather and Sarah sanely just watched.
I’m looking forward to my daily swims. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it this week, because it’s not supposed to be as warm. That, and the pool still isn’t quite warm enough to make it pleasurable.
Of course, I also have to dodge all the stupid skinny college kids shouting in the pool. But I hope I can just go anyway, and scare them with my whale blubber.
California starts getting dry in May? Sheesh, that seems early. It’s still cool and damp here in the East. We’ve had so much rain here in recent weeks, I can’t keep up with the mowing.
