That’s so wrong
Last night, I had Led Zeppelin’s Communication Breakdown stuck in my head. It was warring for brain airtime with Abba’s Dancing Queen, to my irritation and displeasure And then I passed the earworm infection on to someone else. He growled that because of something I said, he’d be listening to Wayne Newton on his way home.
And then Meat Loaf came up. Because anything is better than Meat Loaf. One coworker said she didn’t know much Meat Loaf and I groaned and said unfortunately, I did, thanks to my father.
And then I asked if anyone had seen the fairly recent Meat Loaf commercial, where he’s hawking a cell phone. No.
And then I found this. Not the version you see on TV, but the extended version.
That’s so wrong. And so cheesy.
Watching the credits, I realized I’d been mistaken in thinking that the wife that you glimpse for a second in the airplay version was actually Meat Loaf’s wife. No, it is instead the queen of the 80s mall video, flame-haired Tiffany. And for that matter, it appears that the kid isn’t Meat Loaf’s, either.
I am so disappointed.

After being tortured as a little one by Meat Loaf, I actually thought the commercial was quite cute when I saw it on TV a while back and I of course thought of my father. I, however, didn’t assume anyone in the commercial was his kin. maybe the son.
I was quite amused though to see Tiffany played wife. I just figured it was probably one of Meat’s “hoes” (as dad would call them) from one of his 90s comeback videos. You know the ones where he had a different female than the one who sang on the record. Ahh, Tiffany. Her, Debbie Gibson and Belinda Carlisle were my girlfriends when I was 8.
So what exactly are they trying to say with that video anyway? That if Meat’s son has a GoPhone(TM) then he will get laid? Paradise by the GoPhone(TM) light? This is almost as bad as tobacco companies marketing cigarettes to 12 year olds. Lots of 12 year olds will be getting GoPhones(TM) now and having promiscuous paradise by the the GoPhone(TM) light.
oh and the coolest part of the video? when he threw that stuff in the trashcan! LOL brilliant
Meatloaf is a LEGEND. He’s up there with Nugent, Nazareth and AC/DC. This was a great ode to one of his more popular songs. Thanks for the post.
