Rain and RAM
Excitement. I won’t say much about the laptop I helped pick out, because it’s not mine. I did spend some quality time with it this morning, though. While cleaning up all that bloatware free-trial garbage, a funny noise hit my ears.
Rain on the metal patio cover roof. Raining harder than the medium sprinkles we get during the winter.
Rain in July!
We ran out to the patio and I stuck an arm outside, glorying in the big, falling drops hitting my skin. It didn’t last long, but it was great. Because it’s still cloudy, the heat has stayed down in the low 80s so far.
My other exciting news of the day (other than having a sparkling bathroom after a whirlwind of cleaning) is that I now have 4GB of RAM installed on my year-old desktop computer.
What does Mel B. do when she’s in a computer store, helping someone else spend money? She buys RAM.
I had a small hiccup with the installation, the same one I had the last time I tried to install RAM. You have to seat it really really hard, until it clicks. I called my brother for moral support and a couple of choice words later, I was styling with 4GB instead of 2GB.
My brother points out that his new computer rarely touches all of his RAM; I’m likely to not need more than 3GB, really. Even though Windows Vista is a resource hog. But it’s nice to have. I’d like to put the RAM through its paces now and open up a bunch of programs for the entertainment value
Hasta la vista … oh, that’s terrible.
what’s really amusing about the story is that I was under the impression the RAM was for the laptop. lol so if I said anything that seemed sorta confusing, that’s probably why.
I didn’t make that clear? The laptop came with 3 GB of RAM, so there was no need to crack it open. When helping other people select electronics, I don’t immediately help them void their warranties.
I did void my warranty as soon as I got home with my desktop last year, because I needed to install the wireless card and then a couple weeks later, the graphics card.
well i hate to give dell free publicity, but, you can open their cases without voiding the warranty. i put in a graphics card the next day and a second hard drive within a week.
sorry, but i thought we were talking about the same computer the whole time. my mistake lol
Well, I know you told me that about Dell, but when I looked at what I thought was needed in the laptop and weighed that against cost, I had to go with the Toshiba. However, I haven’t actually looked to see if Toshiba will let you crack the case; all the paperwork remains untouched. I know HP is really crappy in that regard though.
