Like a rodent, the shopping cart is propelled quickly across a crosswalk. Its driver, a scruffy man, runs in a shuffle, ignoring the blinking red hand.

Guy pushes his travelling cart with groceries and a dog. On the Lexus SUV side of town where you almost never see shopping carts travel outside the store parking lot.

In their natural habitat, in daylight. Mingling in colors of different stores, outside the store. These carts want to leave, but can’t. So they wait for the right opportunity to escape, and in the meantime, pretend that they’re just waiting to be returned to the store.

Spied two carts in transit, on their journeys into the world. One man pushes his two bags of groceries to the bus stop. The other cart is being used to carry the belongings of a woman .

Spurred on by a conversation, went to check whether or not the shopping carts at a certain wholesale grocery store actually lock if you take them over a painted yellow line.
