Kerry Picks Edwards
Just heard the news about Kerry’s choice of a running mate. Good choice. I don’t believe Edwards will help deliver the South, but he will bring in the female vote. My cochonerie shines through at last. But I will never forget something that happened in 1992. I was in my first year of college, and I was working in a department store part-time. I was in the break room with about three women, and the subject of conversation turned to politics. I came down hard against Clinton/Gore, and one of the women responded to my diatribe by saying, “Well, I’m voting for them just so I have something good to look at on TV for the next four years.” The other women nodded their approval. Emotional creatures, ain’t they? So easily swayed.
If there were any female readers of this journal, that would be called “baiting.”
Oh well … back to the subject of Edwards. I liked the campaign he ran in the primary season; he remained positive throughout, which is probably why he lost. But I always vote for losers as a matter of principle. Edwards’ speech-making is certainly better than Kerry’s. He has a populist message which is appealing. Of course underneath the campaign biography, he is still a millionaire lawyer, but the voter never holds that against their masters. What’s that verse from Proverbs? “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.”
