Tooling around
If you use Firefox…
…you should also download the Google Toolbar for Firefox.
Although Firefox comes with a Google search bar built in, for my purposes the Google Toolbar has proven to be handy for tasks other than searching. For example, it has a spellchecker which I now use for my blog, and it definitely works better and more consistently than the spellchecker bundled with b2Evolution. If you’re using b2Evolution, you need this toolbar for the spellchecker alone. It works exactly like the spellchecker in Gmail: misspelled words are highlighted within the text of a blog post, and you can correct them and see the results immediately.
The Google Toolbar also features a technology called PageRank which tells you on a scale of one to ten how important your site is. based on how many people link to you. Um, I’d rather not say what my page rank is right now…but from the perspective of one’s vanity, PageRank is nice to have. Mine hasn’t changed since installing it, but I check it every day like the wicked queen in Snow White.
“PageRank, PageRank, on my toolbar / Who’s the most-linked-to one of all?”

Thanks, Matt. B2’s spellchecker is horrible. It stalls pretty often for me, so, yes, I will download the toolbar. Right now in fact.

I have Firefox, but I admit I don’t use it very often. It doesn’t run as fast as Explorer, and it organized my bookmarks in a way I was too lazy to fix. About the only time I use it is when I click on a link, and Firefox launches itself.
I should give it another chance, I suppose.
It probably is fun to be narcissistic and check that pagerank. Maybe I’ll have to try it.

My experience with Firefox has been the opposite in terms of speed. I think it’s faster than even Safari. I use it at work on my Dell box and at home on my Mac. The Google toolbar is available for IE also, though, so you should download it anyway. The spellchecker in b2evolution routinely crashes or doesn’t work at all.
